Type Locality and Naming

Mid-South Sichuan. The Darezha Fm was named by the Sichuan Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources in 1991. The type section is in Dengxiangying, Xide County, Sichuan Province. One of the upper formations within the Dengxiangying Gr.

Synonym: (大热渣组), Dashan Fm and Dengxiangying Fm are different names of the same formation.


Lithology and Thickness

The formation is dominated by metamorphosed carbonate rock. Lower part is mainly composed of grey thick-bedded stromatolite-bearing dolomite. Upper part is thin-bedded limestone with total thickness of 1100-1400 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The base is conformable onto the Chaowanping Fm.

Upper contact

The top of the formation is overlain conformably (or unconformably) by the Jiupanying Fm (= uppermost formations within the Dengxiangying Gr).

Regional extent

Mid-South Sichuan. The formation is scattered mainly around Dengxiangying in Xide County and Darezha area in Mianning County, Sichuan Province.

Fossils

Stromatolites in the formation are: Conophyton f., Baicalia rara, Tielingella tielingensis, Minjaria calcilata, M. nimbifera, etc.

The schematic stratigraphic column places Dengxiangying Gr as spanning Xishanian-Yuxian (Ectasian-Stenian), and each of its 5 formations are given equal spans for graphics.
